The area around

Antwerp itself comfortably fills a port day. Travelling to Brussels is possible but sacrifices the exceptional city-centre berth and adds rail disruption risk; Mechelen is a shorter alternative only for repeat visitors.

Mechelen

About 45–60 min by walk plus train

St Rumbold's Cathedral · Grote Markt · Compact historic centre

Brussels

About 75–90 min each way including transfer to Antwerp-Central

Grand-Place · Royal quarter · Belgian food

Things cruise passengers get wrong

  • 🚨Museum Plantin-Moretus is closed 3 August–4 December 2026; use a substitute on calls during that period.
  • ⚠️The historic Rubens residence is closed for renovation until 2030; only Rubens Experience, garden and library are available.
  • ⚠️Cathedral tourism hours can change for worship and special events.

Weather through the year

May, June and September generally suit long city walks; rain is possible in every season.
