At a Glance

Limassol is Cyprus's main cruise gateway, but its modern New Port terminal is outside the walkable historic core. Use the ship shuttle, bus 30 or a taxi to the marina, Old Port and medieval castle, then explore the compact old streets and Molos promenade on foot. Longer calls open up Kourion's cliff-top theatre and mosaics, Kolossi's Crusader tower, Amathous or the wine village of Omodos.

⚠️ Do not treat Limassol New Port and the Old Port beside the castle as the same place.

⚠️ Summer heat, UV exposure and limited shade are significant at Kourion, Kolossi and Amathous.

⚠️ Road traffic can slow the return from the eastern hotel strip, Troodos villages or Kourion.

Did you know?

Limassol has stories most visitors walk straight past.

  • 1

Tradition says Richard the Lionheart married Berengaria of Navarre at Limassol in 1191 and crowned her Queen of England.

  • 2

Commandaria, associated with the Knights at Kolossi, is often described as one of the world's oldest continuously named wines.

  • 3

Kourion's restored ancient theatre is still used for performances against a dramatic Mediterranean backdrop.

  • 4

Limassol sits between two ancient city-kingdoms: Kourion to the west and Amathous to the east.

If you have…

⏱ 2 hours

  1. 1.Take the confirmed shuttle, bus 30 or taxi directly to the marina/Old Port area.
  2. 2.Walk around the castle exterior, Old Port and the western end of Molos; enter the castle only if time and opening allow.
  3. 3.Return from the exact shuttle stop with at least 30–45 minutes before the final transfer.

🕐 4 hours

  1. 1.Transfer to the marina and begin at Limassol Medieval Castle.
  2. 2.Follow part of the official historic-centre route through Agiou Andreou and the market streets.
  3. 3.Have an old-town or marina lunch, then walk Molos before returning with a 45-minute buffer.

🌅 A full day

  1. 1.Choose either a city-and-waterfront day or a westward Kourion and Kolossi excursion; do not rush both themes.
  2. 2.For Kourion, travel early before heat builds and add Kolossi only with pre-arranged transport.
  3. 3.For the city, combine the castle, historic route, Molos and a Cypriot lunch at an unhurried pace.
  4. 4.Omodos or Amathous should replace, not supplement, a long Kourion plan, and require a conservative return buffer.

The area around

The marina, Old Port, castle, market streets and Molos form the city-day core east of the terminal. Kourion and Kolossi lie west and pair naturally; Amathous lies east along the coastal bus corridor; Omodos is a separate long-call wine-village day.

Greco-Roman theatre · Mosaic houses · Sea-cliff views · Commandaria history

Amathous

Omodos

45–65 min by road

Cobbled square · Holy Cross monastery · Wine press · Arkatena bread

Things cruise passengers get wrong

  • 🚨The New Port cruise terminal and the Old Port by the castle are about 5 km apart; walking from the ship is not the recommended plan.
  • ⚠️Bus fares change on 12 October 2026: the cash single rises from €2 to €2.50 while Motion eWallet remains €2.
  • 🚨Kourion, Amathous and Omodos are separate road excursions; combining distant directions creates unacceptable return risk on a short call.

Blue bars show the normal cruise season. April, May, October and November combine warm weather with more comfortable walking. June to September is excellent for the coast but exposed archaeological sites can be extremely hot.
