Portree harbour & coloured houses
45 min · Free
The postcard: pastel houses around a working fishing harbour.
A tender port: ships anchor in the bay and tender into the harbour, landing you in the village itself. Everything in Portree is immediately to hand on foot; the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and Dunvegan are all a drive away. Tendering is weather-dependent and calls are cancelled or curtailed with some regularity.
⚠️ Tendering is weather-dependent — build slack at both ends and be cautious about non-refundable independent bookings.

Portree has stories most visitors walk straight past.
Portree's pastel-coloured harbour houses were built around a natural bay sheltered by Ben Tianavaig.
The town's name means 'King's Port' — from a visit by James V of Scotland in 1540.
The Old Man of Storr, a 50-metre rock pinnacle, is one of Skye's most famous hikes — about 20 minutes' drive away.
Skye Bridge connects the island to the mainland; until 1995 the only way over was by ferry.
The Skye icons are all a drive away: Old Man of Storr (20 min), Quiraing (35 min), Dunvegan Castle (30 min).
